Extracurricular Opportunities

At Richmond Sixth Form College, our extracurricular programme is one of the school’s greatest strengths, offering a diverse, creative, and engaging range of activities designed to spark every student’s interests. Whether your passion lies in the arts, sports, academics, or unique hobbies, there is truly something for everyone. Students can join clubs such as Textiles Club, Warhammer Club, Eco Club, and History Club, explore a huge variety of sports and music ensembles, or take the stage in performances, concerts, and theatre productions. From area, county and national sports competitions to collaborative projects and creative pursuits, our enrichment opportunities allow every student to discover new skills, build confidence, and make lasting friendships. These activities are designed to enhance creativity, communication, teamwork, resilience, and leadership—preparing students for life beyond Richmond School and Sixth Form College.

EDUCATIONAL TRIPS AND VISITS

Learning outside the classroom enriches students’ understanding and broadens their perspectives. At Richmond School and Sixth Form College, we offer a wide range of local, national, and overseas visits where students can create lasting memories and gain a deeper understanding of the wider world. Some of our recent educational trips and visits include:

  • Year 7 French trip to Brittany

  • Music tour to Germany

  • Business and media trip to Disneyland Paris

  • Physics trip to CERN, Switzerland

  • Business and History trips to the Houses of Parliament and other historic sites in London

  • History Battlefields trip, including Auschwitz

  • Fieldwork visits to Swaledale, York, and Scarborough

  • Theatre excursions to see cultural dance and drama performances

In addition, we have run global fundraising and community projects in Asia and South America, such as supporting an orphanage in India and providing clean water and village amenities in rural Peru.

Our tutor, assembly, and careers programmes complement these experiences, reinforcing school and Sixth Form values, current affairs, and personal development through engaging activities and a wide programme of guest speakers from diverse industries and backgrounds.

Students can also further their personal development through the Duke of Edinburgh Award, in collaboration with Marrick Priory. This programme involves community service, expeditions, and challenging projects that build confidence, resilience, and teamwork skills.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND VOLUNTEERING

At Richmond School and Sixth Form College, we are proud of our thriving student leadership programme, which continues to grow in popularity as students embrace opportunities to develop their skills, take responsibility, and make a real difference within the school and wider community.

Students can take on a variety of leadership roles, including Student Council Representatives, who are elected to advocate for their peers and ensure the student voice is heard on school and community projects. Recent initiatives have included presenting ideas for the Richmond Lower School Restoration Project and contributing to the development of the new Richmond Bike Park.

Our growing network of school volunteers also plays a key role in supporting the school community. Meet-and-greet volunteers help new students settle in during their first few days of school and showcase the very best that Richmond School has to offer to visitors as they take them on guided tours of the school and college.

There are also numerous opportunities to develop leadership skills through a wide range of sports from football and cricket, to boccia and archery. As sports leaders, students support the expanding calendar of School Games and transition events for hundreds of KS1 and KS2 pupils, reflecting Richmond School’s role as a hub for sporting excellence in the area and county.

Beyond formal roles, student leaders have the chance to share their passion for Richmond School, giving tours to prospective families at our open evenings, offering personal insights into life at the school. These experiences help students share their passion for Richmond School, build confidence and communication skills, while making a meaningful contribution to the school community.
