Careers

Richmond School is committed to providing a high-quality, planned programme of careers education and guidance for all students. Our aims support those of the Department for Education and help students with decision making. Key themes running through the programme are:

  • Self-awareness - helping young people assess their own interests, skills, strengths and weaknesses, recording their experiences and developing their capabilities
  • Careers research - using resources, understanding how curriculum subjects support careers, and learning about the labour market.
  • Career decisions - helping young people make decisions regarding programmes of study for GCSE and Post-16 options.

At Richmond School, we are proud to be one of the first schools to be awarded the prestigious Quality in Careers Standard, which was re-accredited in November 2024. This recognition highlights our strong and ongoing commitment to providing high-quality careers education and guidance for every student—both in school and in the Sixth Form.

Our comprehensive careers programme supports the aims of the Department for Education and helps students make confident, informed decisions about their future pathways.

Key features of our programme include:

  • Celebration of National Careers Week and National Apprenticeship Week, with inspiring guest speakers.
  • Careers ideas embedded across all subjects at least once per half term, connecting learning to real-world opportunities.
  • Partnerships with local colleges offering taster days to help students explore post-16 and post-18 options.
  • Year 9 and Year 11 Careers Fair with a range of employers, training and apprenticeships providers, further education colleges and universities.

Through these opportunities, we ensure every student is well-prepared for their next steps—whether that’s further study, training, or employment.
